Job Description:

Summary of Key Functions

The Health Senior Trainer (HST) is mainly responsible for leading the implementation of the community-based health care component of the WAQAR Project in targeted locations of the project. she should be building capacity of the Community Midwives (CMWs) and Community Health Workers (CHWs) according to the project requirements to enable them to work as private health providers at the end of the project. She is also responsible for establishment of the CMWs and CHWs health posts in close collaboration and coordination with the targeted communities. HST supervise public health programs and technically support CMWs and CHWs in targeted communities. She promotes collaboration between the community health posts and communities and supports community in identifying and addressing their health problems. She is expected to identify vulnerable community and CMWs and CHWs in these communities through coordination with influential community members such as teachers, Mulla, religious leaders, health shura and Community Development Committees. She is also expected to motivate and engage fellow community members in delivering key health and nutrition messages.

Collaborates with CMWs, CHWs and other Project team members as well as other related staff  

Actively contributes to the project to ensure that the project interventions are implemented in effective and efficient manner and the project goal and objectives are met

     Key Results Expected:

HST is mainly responsible for implementation of the community-based health care component of the WAQAR Project in the project targeted locations.

HST is obliged to build capacity of the community midwives and community health workers including conduction of the training need assessment, design of the training materials and conduction of the trainings as well as on the job technical support to them.

HST is responsible for identification and selection of the CMWs and CHWs in targeted communities in consultation with the community influential and support from the provincial team of CARE.

She will be supporting CMWs and CHWs in establishment of their health posts and regularly supply of the medical kits for them as per the identified criteria and in line with the CBHC strategy of MoPH.

Link CMWs and CHWs with private sector including social marketing organization and private hospitals and clinics for cross referral and establishment of sustainable linkages to provide health services in close coordination with the targeted communities.

Supervise and follow-up the CMWs and CHWs activities at the targeted communities including provision of health services and health & nutrition education during home visits as well as in the health posts.

Build a liaison with nearby public health facilities as well as the private hospital for making appropriate referrals, which should be in line with the project and health system requirements.

Establishment and capacity building of the Female Health Shuras, Family Health Action Groups (FHAGs) enabling these groups to work independently.

She is responsible for interacting with communities and community leaders to identify health problems and facilitate community mobilization for improved decision making system so that communities are empowered and self-sustained.

Conduct capacity assessment of both CMWs and CHWs and develop capacity building plan based on the assessment result.

HST is responsible for the preparation of teaching materials and handouts for Community health workers and midwife post.

Delivers appropriate training sessions making use of acceptable teaching methods and materials.

Design pre and posttest questionnaire for the teaching topics and provide feedback and report.

Train CMWs and CHWs on all the data collection tools and forms, which need to be developed based on the project scope of work and reporting requirements.

Regular support to CHWs to enable them to conduct community mapping, collect data on perinatal health indicators and to generate reports as per their JDs and to provide feedback to CHWs on their performance.

Tracking the referral system implemented by CMWs and CHWs to health facilities and Maternal, Child Health Centers (MCH) health facilities.

Shares the project findings with communities and Shuras and advocates on its behalf.

Held brain storming sessions and FGDs with CMWs and CHWs and member of Community Health Shuras to identify relevant interventions for shuras

Support project advocacy interventions at the targeted communities

Participate in the project team meetings to ensure that the project interventions are implemented as per the project plan.

Any other tasks assigned by her supervisor.

Skills:

Deep knowledge of the community health care, Reproductive and maternal and child health services

Knowledge of women right and advocacy related issues

Excellent training and facilitation and community mobilization skills

Very good supervision and monitoring skills of community-based health care services

Having a deep knowledge of Afghan traditions and cultural norms

Ability and willingness to work at the communities.

Work in public private partnership will be a plus.

Excellent spoken /written Dari and Pushto

Ability to review and monitor activity and record outcomes and learning.

English language and computer skill would be a preference.

 

Education:

 

Degree on MD or Diploma from medical institutions (nursing and midwifery)-at lease 14th grade graduate with minimum 3-5 years’ experience of training preferably in the area health / RMNCH

 

 Work Experience: 

with minimum 3 years’ experience in management, supervision and monitoring of the community-based health, maternal and child health services and provision of trainings to midwives and community health workers. Also, experience of conducting the advocacy services and awareness on women right issues.

 

Languages Skills:

Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement. English Language skills is a plus point
