Job description

Job Description:
UNICEF is committed to engage children and youth as key actors in their own development. In 2020, UNICEF Afghanistan launched the U-Report.

U-Report is a free, text message-based tool for community participation, developed by UNICEF, designed to address issues that affect the population, especially youth. On this platform, youth can express themselves, through short surveys, on issues they care about. The results are then shared back with the community, decisions-makers and on social media/media to create a positive, constructive dialogue, and give young people a voice, a platform, and an opportunity to shape their future. Also, U-Report can help to make UNICEF programmes stronger and more relevant for children by engaging them through polls and live chat.

This year, the U-Reporters made their voices heard by participating in more than 10 polls covering education, youth participation, protection, polio, and WASH. The results have been shared with UNICEF programme and the follow up actions are ongoing. Today, we have more than 1,500,000 U-Reporters on the platform, and we are receiving more than 1000 questions per day.

To manage this and give feedback to the community, we would like to renew the contract of our two (2) extenders and contract three (3) more extenders to answer the questions in local languages and support field offices within their respective provinces to grow the U-Report platform in Afghanistan.

Visit www.ctg.org to find out more Background: Afghanistan is one of the multi hazard prone countries of South Asia, with earthquakes, floods, droughts, landslides, sandstorms, and avalanches as the common natural disasters. Heavy rain and snow cause major problems across the region almost every year. Extreme winter conditions and avalanches are also a recurrent feature in the mountainous areas of Afghanistan that make up approximately 63 per cent of the country. Poor housing provides little protection to the households in rural parts of the country. Lack of capacity and resources within government institutions further adds to the vulnerabilities of families affected or displaced by natural disasters. Under the overall supervision of the WASH Programme Manager and WASH Officer, as well as guidance from the SRR Project Officer (Community Assessment and Engagement), and under the direct supervision of the Project Assistant, the successful candidate will support the implementation of activities committed in Special Trust Fund for Afghanistan (STFA) project documents and those required for development and sustainability of the IOM Places approach in Afghanistan.
